Import OBJ files

Latest Update: 2022-07-15

The Aiq3D application uses obj files to manipulate 3D geometries. It is a universal format that allows the storage of 3d and 2d coordinates: vertices, UVs, normals and faces. Object files can be created in any 3D modeling application and can then be imported into Aiq3D or exported. Given that the geometries will be rendered in real time in the online environment, they must be optimized to be available on multiple types of devices, keeping the number of faces as small as possible.

The import is done from the menu from or by drag and drop in the browser in the editing player. Several similar geometries may be imported.

If the obj files are validated, the imported geometries will be rendered instantly without having an associated material. Geometries that are not positioned at the origin of the XYZ system may not be visible if they are not in the camera. In this case, the position or rotation of the camera will have to be adjusted, so the geometries will have to be repositioned.

For large geometries, the camera will have to be positioned farther from the origin on the Z axis until all 3D objects enter the frame. In the case of large geometries, they recommend scaling them.
